Artists In Residence: West Boca Medical Center

Hello School friends!

We have a new volunteer opportunity that is called “Artists-in-residence volunteer” that we are looking to fill with some teen volunteers. Perhaps you have a student that lives in close proximity to our hospital?  Our objective is to bring the teens in-house to volunteer however, we can work with schools to have some projects completed at your site.  Please see details below and thank you!


  1. Re-do Hospital Bulletin boards
  2. Help to create and design an image that will project the prescribed theme (such as ‘caring’)
  3. Build a list of craft supplies necessary to create the artwork
  4. Potentially shop with me for the supplies
  5. Create the image and place in the bulletin board
  6. Make Baby welcome signs
  7. Work with crafts to create the welcome baby signs that we subsequently hang on the new mother’s door with the new baby’s name and date of birth
  8. Keep art supplies current and organized


  • Artistically inclined with proven skills working with crafting projects
  • Able to work 2 to 3 hours per week
  • Able to go through our volunteer orientation program onboarding (2 hr orientation, flu shot, TB test, reference letter)

Shift placement

  • This job can be accomplished at any time and can accommodate teen availability such at 4 – 6 pm on any school night and weekends anytime (such that we can work a few teens into one group).

Donate Art Supplies and Receive Hours!

Alliance For Kids will award  2 community services hours for:
3 – 8 x 10 stretched art canvasses; 10  Poly brushes any size; 2 packages, large – 1/2  to 1 in wide or variety sized paint brushes
1 package of small brushes, 1 bottle of glitter paint – any color; 2 48 box of crayons, 1 box of 24 colored pencils, 1 box of 12 markers.
Our patients love to paint ceiling tiles and that is very hard to do with the very tiny brushes.
I will offer this opportunity until the end of April. The donation will need to be dropped off at Palm Beach Children’s Hospital. I am available to sign community service hour sheets

A Day for Kids@South Florida Fairgrounds

Saturday, April 23rd & Sunday, April 24th 10:00am – 5:00pm @ South Florida Fairgrounds

Our Kids World Family Fun Fest is a two-day indoor event at the South Florida Fairgrounds on April 23 & 24, 2016 from 10am to 5pm each day. Our Kids World is looking for student’s ages 13-18 years old to work at Our Kids World in return for community service hours for school credit.
Tasks will include: Wearing character costumes such as SpongeBob, Super Why, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George and more. Reading to kids, passing out event programs, taking pictures, working the mini-go-kart track, executing exit surveys and more. We have a limited space for community service hours.

Volunteer at the Downtown Showdown!

Community Service Hours!

The Downtown Showdown KDW is an event that has been inspired by our great friend Scott Terry who was tragically killed in a car accident in February of 2014. Scotty was an avid fisherman and often spoke about hosting a unique fishing tournament in Palm Beach County. The tournament will take place in the downtown West Palm Beach Waterfront on Flagler Drive between North and South Clematis Street. This year’s event will be more of a family event than just a fishing tournament. There will be live music, local artists and vendors, local businesses and Flagler Dr. will host several boat manufacturers displaying their amazing boats, wing competition, along with the magnificent and exotic cars and a KID ZONE!

We expect approximately 150 registered boats to fish the tournament this year, and thousands of spectators to come enjoy the show.

We are excited to get High School Students involved in this awesome community event this year! There are several opportunities for students to earn community service hours:

(1)KIDS ZONE – The event will have a Kids Zone area with activities and stations including games provided by Jupiter Bounce, Face Painting, Balloon Artists, Casting ponds, Star Wars Character Meet-n-Greet. We would love for volunteers to help man the different activities to make sure the kids are playing safely and having fun!

(2)EVENT AUCTION ITEMS – The Downtown Showdown will host a silent auction at their Captains meeting prior to the event. We are looking for students who would like to help seek donations of products or services that we could use on this night. Examples include gift certificates, jewelry, gift baskets, art work, salon services, fishing items or products. I include this list only for ideas, but is no way meant to limit the items. Practically anything of interest as long as it is new (not used).

(3)RAFFLE TICKET SALES – We would LOVE if students could assist in selling RAFFLE TICKETS during the event! Proceeds from RAFFLE earnings will benefit the wonderful organizations mentioned above!

(4)EVENT ASSISTANCE- As you can image, a lot of work goes into setting up an event like this. We will need help with things such as packaging auction items, filling captains buckets, as well as event set up and break down.

It would be a good idea to get there between 11:30 and 11:45am (around 5:30 – 5:45pm March 25). We park in the South Jupiter Community Park parking lot, to get there, stay on Parkside Dr, go past the stadium and then turn right on Frederick Small Rd (you will start to wonder if you have gone to far and then there will be a stop sign with a turn lane), the park will be on your left and the first stop sign. There will be golf carts taking volunteers to and from the skate park, just say you are with Palm Beach Children’s Hospital volunteering for the 50/50 raffle and you would like to go to gate B. Once there you may need to show your Eventbrite ticket to the checker and again say you are a 50/50 raffle volunteer. Once in, go to the left and we will have a table set up near the entrance with an Alliance For Kids banner and a 50/50 monitor set up.

I will be checking everyone in and giving you either a vest or a shirt to wear for the day. I will also give you your food voucher! What you will be doing is wearing a pink shirt or vest and holding up a sign with the 50/50 raffle information on it and who it supports. Volunteers always need to be by a Roger Dean employee wearing an orange shirt that says 50/50 raffle. The are the ones that take the money and can print off raffle tickets. We typically get done around 3:30pm (should be 9:30pm on March 25).

We will have waters and snacks at the table, make sure you are coming back every once in a while to hydrate. I have sunscreen as well but it’s a good idea to apply beforehand as we are in the sun for about 4 hours straight.
