ArtiGras Fine Arts Festival occurs over Presidents’ Day Weekend on February 15 & 16, 2020 in Abacoa, Jupiter. We rely heavily on our volunteers to make the festival run smoothly. There are various roles and shifts available throughout the 2-day event, from the ArtiKids Zone, to Merchandise, Volunteer Headquarters, Hospitality and more.

Volunteers will receive: free entry to the festival on the day of volunteer shift (before or after shift is completed), free ArtiGras volunteer T-shirt, free food and beverage, and volunteer credit (upon request).

Details of Volunteer Activity: We are looking for Volunteer Coaches for our Youth Flag Football League. This is an 8-week season with one game/week. Most games will fall on a Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, so you can expect very few – if any – Saturday games. There will be between 1-2 practices a week that you can plan based on your schedule.

Details of Volunteer Activity: Volunteers will help manage kids games. After they arrive on-site and check in, they’ll finish setting up the event site (games), manage the kid games during the event, and help pack it up when the event is over.

Attire: Please wear a black shirt. We may have event shirts for you, but they may not arrive in time. We will be outside, so please bring bug spray if you traditionally wear that. Please park your vehicle in the Evernia Parking Garage (at Evernia and Dixie or Olive). We will provide a parking pass.

Animals Events: Round 2 (And More!)

Location: Your home, kitten pick up and orientation at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue
League
Hours: 2 hrs per kitten per day.  Typical time for housing a kitten is 1-4 weeks.
Details of Volunteer Activity: Care for and socialize underage kittens to prepare them for adoption!

Date of Event/Activity: No set date, hours vary and are flexible but should add up to at least 8 hours each month for a minimum period of 6 months.

Details of Volunteer Activity:

Our minimum age for volunteering at the shelter is 16, but there are also take-home projects (fostering an animal, for example, or doing projects that involve making enrichment items/toys for the animals) that younger kids can earn credit for.

Most of the volunteer roles available in the shelter for kids under 18 are not direct animal handling positions, but they are nonetheless very important in supporting all of our programs. For example, a 16 year old could take on a role like “Foster/Rescue Aide,” where they would work closely with our Foster/Rescue Coordinator to assist her with all the administrative aspects of the Foster and Rescue programs (including helping prepare kitten foster care kits, etc.). They could also take on the role of Greeter/Host, which involves hanging out in the front lobby and welcoming visitors to the shelter, answering basic questions, and directing people to wherever they are trying to go.

There *is* actually one direct animal handling position open to those under 18, but only with cats. Our “Kitty Cuddler” position is open to those 16 and up, and it involves interacting with and socializing cats that are in the shelter’s adoption program waiting for homes. We also are very much in need of in-shelter Enrichment Assistants, who work with our Behavior/Enrichment staff on things like preparing and distributing frozen peanut-butter-stuffed Kong toys to the dogs, etc.

All of these (with the exception of the take-home projects) are ongoing volunteer positions that do require a minimum six-month long commitment (8 hours per month). So students would need to be prepared for that commitment. But as long as they are, we would be very grateful to have them join us!

Volunteers are a vital part of Furry Friends!

We simply can’t do what we do without our volunteer team members.  Our animals and organization welcome and appreciate the donation of your valuable time and talent to help our dogs and cats while they await their forever homes.
As a Furry Friends’ approved volunteer, you may participate with our organization in so many ways:
  1. Bring a Furry Friend to adoption and special events (e.g. food collection drives, fundraisers, community events.)
  2. Walk dogs, interact with cats, assist our adoption desk and help us put our best face forward to visitors at both our Jupiter Adoption Center and Palm City Ranch.
  3. Accept donations, organize merchandise, provide customer service and more at our Thrift Boutique
  4. Provide photography or marketing services to promote our adoptable animals.
  5. Take a Furry Friend on a field trip to a local dog-friendly restaurant, beach, or park to increase their socialization, exposure, and adoption opportunities
  6. Assist us with special projects requiring attention at both locations, from fixing broken doors and faucets to installing shelving, and more

 


Second Chance Rescue

Foster Caretaker

We are a foster-based organization, which means that we do not have a shelter. Our animals are kept in our volunteers’ homes and given the love and care they deserve while they wait for their forever homes. We provide the necessary supplies for our foster caretakers (food, crates, kitty litter, medications, if necessary, etc.). You supply the love and attention. Fosters are responsible to ensure that animals available for adoption are brought to the events.

Event Volunteer

We have adoption events every weekend. We have weekly events at various PETCO and PetSmart stores. We also participate in a variety of community events. Event volunteers may be assigned to work with dogs, cats, puppies, or kittens. They may also be assigned to hand out literature to the public or request donations. We try to give each volunteer an opportunity to perform a variety of duties. Each week an email is sent out to all of our volunteers about the upcoming weekend’s events. If you are available to volunteer, we ask that you respond to the email and let us know which event you will be attending and what time you will be there.

Cattery Visitors

We have adoptable cats that reside in the catteries at the PETCO stores in Palm Beach county. Cattery Visitors spend time with the kitties, giving them lots of love and affection. Duties also include some minor cleaning and making sure everyone has plenty of food and water. Cattery shifts are available daily and you can sign up for as many or as few shifts as your schedule permits!

Transporter

Transporters drive animals to and from the veterinarian’s office, deliver or transfer animals to foster homes, deliver medication and supplies to foster homes, pick up animals for events, or pick up animals at shelters.

Collecting Supplies or Donations

We can always use supplies. Some of the items we need include:

– Newspapers
– Cleaning supplies
– Laundry detergent and bleach
– Dog food, treats, and toys
– Cat food, kitty litter, litter boxes, treats, and toys
– Crates and carriers
– Leashes, collars, and harnesses

Red Apple Supplies is located at Riviera Beach Preparatory & Achievement Academy. The address is 7071 Garden Road, Riviera Beach, Florida 33404.

Monday thru Friday – Enter and park at the school’s front lot using the spaces on the south end of the building. Walk thru the open gate and continue to the back of the school, follow the directional signs and flags for Red Apple Supplies.

Saturdays – Drive to the back of the school using the Red Apple Supplies directional signage from the road.

Volunteer Tasks and Agenda:

The goal of RAS volunteer projects is to uphold the look and integrity of the facility, that our teachers will enjoy an experience no other Teacher Resources Store can match. Though not all inclusive, the following will be what a volunteer could expect to be assigned to for each scheduled session:

– Sort, organize, inventory and stock donated and/or purchased products
– Assist Teachers with their shopping experience
– Research values and set distribution quantities
– Add descriptive signage to departments and product
– Build and set retail display racks
– Create inviting displays and creative uses of outdated items
– General housekeeping items throughout the year
– Attire

Please dress comfortably and refrain from wearing open-toed footwear (sandals, flip-flops, etc.). Many companies and groups that come together are welcome to wear their company/team shirts.
