Name of Event: “Art for the Soul”

Location:  First Presbyterian Church / 231 North Federal Highway Lake Worth, FL 33460

Phone: 561-582-7755

Details of Volunteer Activity: Our “Art for the Soul” program provides free music, visual art, and tutoring lessons to underprivileged Elementary-aged students in the area. As we build and expand the program, we need to increase our number of tutors. We already have a few volunteer high-schoolers, and we see the benefit of having “bigger kids” tutor these children. It gives them hope for their futures, while giving teenagers an opportunity to give back to their communities and make a difference. The volunteers will need only to provide their own transportation to the church, and attend a brief training we provide on how best to engage children. We will provide community service hours for this training and for each tutoring session.

Do you have a few hours a month to make a huge difference in someone’s life by assisting with gardening, organizing, and household chores? A lovely lady living with ALS in Palm Springs needs assistance in the home once a week for a couple hours, depending on your schedule. Becoming a Visiting Volunteer with The ALS Association Florida Chapter will bring you purpose and meaning. We require potential Visiting Volunteers to complete an online training process, including two reference checks, a short phone interview, and a background check. Volunteers assist with simple tasks of everyday living and are not allowed to help with medical or personal care, finances, or transportation.

If this unique opportunity interests you, please respond to this posting or contact Becky Ford, bford@alsafl.org, (813) 637-9000 ext. 133, for further information. We hope you consider joining the team!

Every year, HATT Foundation, Inc holds an Annual Turkey Drive to put a turkey on the Thanksgiving table of over 500 families of Southeast Florida. This year our goal is to give 2,500 turkeys to 2,500 needy and at-risk children and families.
During the event, needy children and families will be given a turkey per household and will have a chance to sign up for HATT Food Assistance Program to receive food assistance monthly.
This holiday is an opportunity to cherish our loved ones and enjoy the countless blessings that have been bestowed upon us. For many, the recession and economic downturn have made this a hard to achieve goal. This is where we come in and where YOU can help!
**We need volunteers between now to November 15, to spread the word and help us raise funds so we can get 2,500 turkeys to distribute on our Annual Turkey Drive on Nov 20, 2018. We also need volunteers to help us distribute the turkeys to the needy children and families at our event on November 20, 2018, from 9 am – 11am. Go to www.hatt.today to learn more about the event.**

HATT Foundation is in need volunteers every weekend to do fundraising for us. They will be standing in front of food stores (Publix, Walmart, or Trader Joe’s) asking people for donations. The hunger issue cannot be solved right away, it is a continuous fight. Therefore, we have to keep raising funds to continue to feed current families and elders in our food assistance program and hope to have more funds to be able to feed more families. We get new applicants almost every day from families, elders, and disabled individuals requesting food assistance.
We also need volunteers who are great and very savvy with social media posting to help us keep posting updates, announce upcoming events, event reminders, asking for donations via social media platform weekly. Since this is online, they can do this at home, on their mobile phones, or anywhere they have access to a computer with a secure wifi.
The third thing we need a volunteer for is for Nov 20 from 7 am -11 am. We are partnering up with one of our sponsors, PharmX-Pure Age Management for our Annual Turkey Drive. Therefore, we will be holding the event at their clinic, which is in Boynton Beach, FL.
Our organization also is big on providing classes or groups to help our community to help improve their health and well-being. We are currently providing free classes:
  • Diabetic Training Classes
  • Food and Nutrition Classes
  • Wellness & Fitness Classes
We are also putting together a new class for girls. Classes that helps them to excel in a world that demands so much from them. Learn how to properly deal with peer pressure, bullies, proper usage of social media, how to protect themselves and identify dangerous situations. Teach them to have self-esteem and confidence.
If you are a student, 12 – 17 years old, who could benefit and/or are interested, please contact us Jazzmine Mendoza (Fundraising Event Director) at admin@hatt.today or (844) 737-4288.

The Guardian ad Litem Program is in desperate need of help on October 19th (this is a teacher’s work day)!  We are looking for high school students that are available to help move empty file cabinets and miscellaneous computer items.  We would need them to come to the courthouse (15th Judicial Circuit, 205 N. Dixie Highway, Suite 4.110, West Palm Beach, Fl. 33401) to load the items. We would then either transport them to Vista warehouse on Okeechobee to unload or if we are not allowed to transport them (all our employees are background screened) we would need a few to be at the other location for drop off.  We would be making several trips.  The youth can either be picked up when completed from Vista or the Courthouse.

Please contact Michelle Canaday (Circuit Director) at 561-355-1148 or michelle.canaday@gal.fl.gov if you are interested!
