January Featured Project – Grandparents Gone Wired

Starting in January, we will be participating in Do Something’s campaign, Grandparents Gone Wired.

The use of technology can make the lives of older adults much easier, but it is uncommon for them to know enough about the technology to put it to use. Show an older adult in your life how to use apps or computer programs that can improve their life. Submit pictures to us and DoSomething.org of you doing so, and be entered for a chance to win a $10,000 scholarship!

Hello CAN friends,

The past two months have been hugely successful! Thank you to all project participants and supporters for all of your hard work and thoughtful donations. You are the backbone of Community Angel Network.

In November, we wrapped up Reesie’s Pieces of Love, run by Remi Laufer, benefiting Kibblez of Love, a pet food bank dedicated to keeping pets and their families together during rough financial situations. We collected a total of 854 pounds of dog and cat food, as well as $175 in donations. If you would like to know more about Kibblez of Love, you can visit their website at www.kibblezoflove.org.

Jill Lebenson coordinated the December project: Tender Hearts Little Hands. Jill collected Target gift cards from many families and purchased gifts for the children living at the emergency shelter Grandma’s Place. These kids had a very special Christmas because of the generosity of so many people!

The December 13th Palm Beach County Food Project collection yielded 67 green bags worth of food items, weighing in at over a thousand pounds for Abacoa alone. The total weight of all of the bags collected in Palm Beach County this month was six tons. If you think that’s a lot of food, the grand total for all of this year is twenty-one tons! This is a major accomplishment for our community, and the local food banks were definitely impacted by the donations. If you would like to become a coordinator in your neighborhood for this amazing project, contact us and we will help you get started.

Coming up in January, we will be supporting dosomething.org in their campaign “Grandparents Gone Wired”. Teach a senior how to use a smartphone, tablet, or computer, and submit pictures of the process to be entered for a chance to win a $10,000 scholarship. See our website for more information.

This has been a wonderful year. Thank you for all of your support in Community Angel Network’s endeavors and for your thoughtful donations to any of our projects this year. We have achieved so much more than I expected to achieve in this first year and I am so excited to see what 2015 will bring for CAN. We are always looking for more project managers to conduct our community service projects, so if you are interested, please contact us! Continue to spread the word about CAN; when we come together, there is no limit to what we can achieve.

Thank you!
